How to Avoid a Train Wreck

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

For those of you who missed it, I delivered a live webinar presentation today on the topic of “Avoiding a Online Train Wreck” with my “virtual labs” Texan partner, Surgient.  It was good, interactive presentation, focused on five steps to avoid having your students walk away from the online training event.  It was well publicized, and over 100 participants joined me!  If you missed it, here are the five “tips” I gave to avoid derailing.

1. Engage your audience
2. Train & support the instructor
3. Support the students
4. Use the right tools:  Don’t compromise.
5. Always evaluate after each event.

In the short time I had, I had to skip some of my other best tips, but that I get hired!  Don’t want to give away all my secrets.

On the other hand, if you want a link to this presentation, stay tune to this blog:  I will post it as soon as I get it from Surgient.  :-)

Back in the Saddle

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I’ve been out of touch for several weeks:  I went on several long trips (Caribbean, Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas), for mental relaxation, see an old friend, skiing with my daughter and learn!)

I’ll pick up on the trips at a later time.  But the trip to Vegas for LMS 2007 was astounding:  I never realized how much many people were so confused about LMSs and LCMSs and how many need help through the maze.

I was invited to this Elliott Masie sponsored-event (he’s a real nice guy, by the way) from an old friend, Chris Bond, at Bluewater Interactive of Dallas.  The intent was to seek new business opportunities and to see how this side of the eLearning business is doing.  And it is doing well!

Except this issue of need:  Most everyone there (over 400 attendees) was looking for assistance to get to the next “LMS level”.  Consequently, Bluewater Interactive and I left with more than 70 prospects.  Not bad for a two-day event!

More on this LMS event in the next couple of days.  In the meantime, I am presenting with Surgient tomorrow on “How to avoid a Train Wreck” (at http://www.surgient.com/news/webinars/20070424.html).  Hope you are one of the people who join!
